Unit Description

This unit allows the student to explore and research a particular area of study in the discipline of theology by means of an independent research project in conjunction with an appropriate faculty member. The area of study and the study plan prepared by the student will be established, checked and approved by the faculty supervisor and through the normal Tabor College processes. The detailed shaping of the unit will be based on discussion and planning between the student and the faculty member appointed as their research project supervisor.

Two or three meetings, early in the semester, of up to two hours each may be held between the student and the faculty member who is directing the research project. During the semester further meetings may be arranged as required. There will normally be a final summative meeting between the student and the directing faculty member to finalise the direction the research project will take.

The early meetings will set out material to read, material to be found and researched, and an area of closer detail and analysis required. Later meetings will seek to put skills in place as needed, and to shape the reading and research towards a detailed topic or set of topics, to set clear assessment goals, and to provide strategic feedback to the student.

Teaching Strategies

The teaching method is supervision and support of the student who drives the research and shapes the method of the project in consultation with the appointed supervisor.
