Unit Description

This unit focuses on the specific skills that may be utilised in face-to-face youth work - particularly group work. These practices will introduced and/or others reviewed in greater depth according to the needs of differing practice settings such as statutory services, schooling systems, non-Government organisations and local government.

Students will grow in their proficiency in such skills including an appreciative awareness of the legal, ethical, health and safety responsibilities that are required by the practice setting. The dynamics and implications of differing social, cultural and economic contexts will be explored with a view to adjusting practices sympathetically. Students will also appreciate how these practices are connected to and give expression to the various philosophical and value frameworks they have been exploring.
